Yo'nle means 'let's be merry' in Yoruba. Eyo'nle Brass Band is an orchestra made up of brass players who pepper their music with percussion. Their repertoire reflects the dualism of the people of Benin, close to their roots while clinging to modern life with all its problems, and is varied not only in terms of musical style but also in terms of subject matter. While the drums drive the brass, the songs deal with today's issues: democracy, AIDS, unemployment among the youth. In addition, the songs also deal with traditional topics: voodoo ceremonies, ritual burials, initiation rites.
