Composer and pianist Renan Koen traces back her miraculous family history ? a history of migration, of losing and finding each other. Her family traces back to her Jewish ancestors who fled from Spain in 1492 and spread all over the Mediterranean. The Turkish-Sephardic repertoire she builds on has always been a bridge and a reflection of the centuries-old communications among very different peoples culminating in a common culture. An Ottoman language, songs sung in this language and hymns performend with Ottoman maqam music. This masterpiece by Koen unites these characteristics and builds a bridge between past and present.
