An exciting new project from the makers of Make Me a Channel of Your Peace. Inspired by President Bush?s famous ?State of the Union Address? from 2002, wherein he launched the term ?Axis of Evil?, Kirkelig?s Erik Hillestad decided to counter this demonizing of nations by giving voice to the forces of love and peace, with a collection of traditional lullabies from precisely the same countries: Iraq, Iran and North Korea. Several ?old? enemies of the US were included as well, such as Cuba, Palestine, Afghanistan and Syria. Each track features a lullaby sung in its original language ? by top vocalists often living in exile ? and also in English. Among the ?western? voices participating in this project are Kari Bremnes, Nina Hagen, Lila Downs and Eddi Reader.
Skilfully avoiding the clich?s of crossoverism, Norwegian guitar master Knut Reiersrud created spectacular arrangements, weaving melodies from such diverse cultures into a coherent contemporary soundscape.
