Who is Xangó?
He's a god. He's an Orisha: He originates from the religion of the Westafrican Yoruba people and travelled with them when they were taken across the ocean to the Caribbean and to Brazil. You'll meet him in cuban santeria and brazilian candomble. He symbolises thunder and lightning. Xangó is very flamboyant and is a great warrior, lover, drummer and dancer. he likes music a lot.........We decided to celebrate the richness of the world's music by using Xangó's name (pronounced: "shan-gó").

What is Xangó World Music Records?
Xangó World Music Records was founded 1997 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. We are the specialist store in World Music, from Traditional to Popular, from Folk to World Dance & World Jazz. We have more than 6.000 cd/dvd-titels directly available in our shop in Utrecht and approximately 20.000 cd/dvd-titels in our catalogue on this website.

Xangó Music Distribution – XMD
Initiated in 2003, XMD came forth out of our need for more music. Knowing there is so much out there, unavailable to listeners here, was simply unacceptable to us. Today XMD is a full-grown independant distributor representing many beautiful labels and individual artists…. our search continues.

Xango Music Agency – XMA
At the end of 2007 it was time to start Xango Music Agency. To fulfil our wish bringing live world music to a wide audience, we represent several musicians and bands from around the world in the BeNeLux-countries.

As music-craze and world music lover i have always been involved in different aspects of the industry surrounding this artform. I joined Xangó World Music Records in 2001, which Arnulf and i transformed to the store and online-store we are proud of today.
In 2003 we initiated Xangó Music Distribution trying to make available the unavailable!

Annika

Interested in all kinds of cultural activities such as world music, theatre and dance, I joined Mark and Arnulf in 2008. In addition to the CD-shop and the distribution, we decided to start an agency, Xango Music Agency, in order to give these great world music artists a stage to perform. To hear great music is one thing, to see and feel it live on stage is another!
